A smooth construction handoff can help achieve promised operations performance for a healthcare facility, according to an article on the FacilityCare website.

General contractors say there are a few things facility managers can do to make this process more effective, including improving integration with the existing building.

Earlier involvement of facilities professionals can help ensure a smoother transition. Getting facilities professionals involved earlier in the design of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems is also helpful.

Facility managers should begin walking the building when the MEP system rough-in begins so that they can see the work as it progresses and can be consulted on preferences for maintenance access.
