Cape Cod Healthcare has announced the opening of the upper floors of the Edwin Barbey Patient Care Pavilion at Cape Cod Hospital, which completes the next phase in this transformative project and brings the system’s new facility fully operational. A final phase of an exterior front corridor connecting the Barbey Pavilion to the main Cape Cod Hospital campus is under construction and is slotted to be completed in March 2026.

The four story, 141,148-square-foot structure represents a $215 million investment aimed at enhancing patient care by expanding advanced oncology, cardiology and medical/surgical services. The first two floors opened for patients in May 2025 and house the Davenport-Mugar Cancer Center.

The first floor is dedicated to radiation oncology, offering state-of-the-art technology which enables patients to receive treatment in a shorter time and with enhanced precision. Medical oncology is located on the second floor, comprised of 36 private and spacious infusion bays filled with natural light, medical oncology exam rooms, a dedicated oncology pharmacy and expanded lab draw services. A terrace garden deck, accessible from the infusion area of the second floor, offers views of Hyannis Harbor and Lewis Bay, creating a serene space for patients, families and staff.

With the opening of the upper inpatient floors, the new facility is now fully operational. Every patient room on the new floors is single-bed occupancy, creating a private, comfortable and quiet environment that promotes healing. The third floor is dedicated to cardiac care, including specialized care for patients recovering from heart-related interventional and surgical procedures.

The floor offers 32 beds and consolidates the hospital's inpatient cardiology services into a centralized, advanced care unit. The fourth floor provides much needed expansion of the hospital's clinical capacity by adding 32 medical/surgical beds to the existing inventory, helping to accommodate the growing demand for surgical services.

The Barbey Pavilion project was made possible in part by philanthropic support, including a $10 million donation from the Edwin Barbey Charitable Trust.
