‘Living Walls’ curb toxic air hot spots

Report shows that the contribution of green building envelopes has been underestimated

A report called "Cities Alive: Green Building Envelope" says that the contribution of green building envelopes has been underestimated, according to an article on the Medical Construction & Design website.

The report reviewed the contribution of green building envelopes, such as moss and vegetated walls, vertical farming and roof gardens in five cities.

Green envelopes, often dismissed as “architectural window dressing,” can reduce localized air pollution by up to 20 percent in some locations, rapidly reducing toxic air at street level, the articles said.

Vertical and urban farming were also highlighted as great ways of creating community spaces.
