Metro using machine-to-machine technology to make vital patient data accessible at the point of care

By Healthcare Facilities Today

ST. LOUIS - InterMetro, a business of Emerson and a leading manufacturer and supplier of storage and transport products for the food service, commercial and healthcare industries, is working with AT&T* to create "smart" mobile workstations that allow caregivers to access treatment information and update patient medical records at patients' bedsides.

The two companies will integrate AT&T's machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions with the Metro(R) AccessPoint wirelessly connected mobile workstations, allowing InterMetro to proactively monitor, troubleshoot and share vital performance data about the devices. The connected mobile workstations send updates and alerts when systems are in need of service and are enabled to receive software updates from InterMetro remotely when needed.

The Metro(R) AccessPoint Rx mobile medical workstation is being finalized to optimize run time, improve patient care, reduce costs and improve efficiency. With these workstations:

- Caregivers have access to treatment information and can update patient medical records at the patient's bedside

- Critical system performance data is remotely monitored on connected stations

- System status and alerts are communicated directly enabling rapid diagnosis and response

- Valuable nursing and information technology time is saved from troubleshooting

- Updates can be sent remotely improving system performance and saving time and money

"We are proud to be working with AT&T to mobilize and improve patient care and caregiver satisfaction with smart workstations," said Rob Sobie, vice president, healthcare solutions at Emerson's InterMetro business. "We expect these smart workstations can also help hospitals streamline workflow and reduce costs by moving vital information to where it is needed, when it is needed in the caregiving process."
