$300 Million Medical Center Set To Open

Acute care hospital has 108 private inpatient beds, an emergency department, and imaging and lab services

By Dan Hounsell

The stream of new construction projects coming on line and wrapping up continues as the pandemic begins to wane nationwide.

After years of development, the Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center soon will bring better access to healthcare for residents in Cumberland, York and Perry County, as well as more opportunities for jobs, according to CBS 21. The construction managed to stay on time, even through a pandemic that was unforeseen at the time building began.

The nearly $300 million project spans 300,000 square feet. The acute care hospital has 108 private inpatient beds, an emergency department, imaging and lab services and general acute medical and surgical capabilities, built in an effort to provide better access to healthcare in the community.

Two years of building has been expedited through a process called speed to market. Utilities and infrastructure was built off site and brought in, with about 400 tradespeople working on the grounds at any given time.
