2020 Environmental Services Departments of the Year Named

AHE awards honor top hospital EVS departments


Health Facilities Management (HFM) has announced the 2020 Environmental Services Department of the Year Award winners, presented by the Association for the Health Care Environment (AHE) and sponsored by Tork. The awards recognize best practices in caring for the healthcare environment.

The 2020 winners are:

  • University of Vermont Medical Center, Burlington, Vt. (500+ beds)
  • Cohen Children's Medical Center — Northwell Health, New Hyde Park, N.Y. (1-249 beds)

2020 Honorable Mentions went to:

  • CaroMont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia, N.C. (250-499 beds)
  • Children's Health Plano, Plano, Texas (1-249 beds)

Since 2009, the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMC ) has earned top green honors from Practice Greenhealth, a national health care sustainability organization, according to another HFM article. In 2019, UVMC increased its recycling rate by 9.5 percent and diverted 18.6 tons of waste through donations — a 34 percent increase from 2018.
