Active incident training must go beyond a focus on active shooters, according to an article on the Campus Safety website.
Immediate entry and fast-moving tactics now constitute the majority of active shooter training. This and the ubiquity of cameras, locks and access control systems (among other efforts and resources) lead facilities to believe they are well prepared.
According to the article, security efforts are lacking in three areas:
• Focus on the active shooter threat above other threats
• Focus on police and security response tactics to the exclusion of many other required capabilities
• Focus on response over prevention and mitigation
