Appleton expands the Mercmaster LED Luminaire series

ROSEMONT, IL. - To bring the energy-saving benefits of LED lighting to an expanded base of industrial users, Appleton has broadened its Mercmaster® LED (Light Emitting Diode) enclosed and gasketed explosion-proof luminaire series to include powerful new versions that allow cost-effective replacement of 350W Pulse Start Metal Halide(PSMH), and 400W Pulse Start Metal Halide (PSMH) and High Pressure Sodium (HPS) fixtures.

Engineered to provide the safest, most energy-efficient lighting, the luminaires withstand harsh industrial environments without compromising illumination or reliability. Suggested applications are hazardous and non-hazardous locations in oil refineries, pulp and paper mills, foundries, general manufacturing plants, and marinas requiring continuous and consistent light levels.

Deploying Mercmaster LED luminaires ensures important labor- and cost-savings. With a service life of 60,000 hours and simplified maintenance, plus the convenience of instant-on lighting and silent operation, the luminaires are a smart retrofit lighting solution. Unlike HIDs that requires a reflector to control light direction, the Mercmaster LED precisely directs light to where it is needed most without the use of external optics, resulting in efficiencies up to 80 percent at a fraction of the operating costs of traditional lighting.

Because they are designed for demanding locations, Mercmaster LED luminaires feature NEMA 4X rated housings, guards and mounting hoods manufactured from copper-free cast aluminum and protected by an epoxy powder coat, a combination that results in a unit that can withstand punishing weather, salt water, corrosive chemicals, and high ambient temperatures. In addition, the fixture's aluminum heat sink dissipates heat more effectively than standard steel, while its threaded polycarbonate lens better safeguards the LED cluster than the glass lenses deployed in competitor's fixtures.

Mercmaster LED luminaires are rated by the NEC as Class I, Div. 2, and Class 1, Zone 2. They come in a variety of mounting options.
