Australian hospital's energy efficiency project criticized

Government priorities questioned after $3.3 million was set aside for improved energy efficiency at Canberra Hospital

The priorities of the Australian government were questioned after $3.3 million was set asaide for improved energy efficiency at Canberra Hospital, according to an article on the Canberra Times website.

The funds will be used to install a 500-kilowatt solar array on the hospital's roof and the criticism has been called shortsighted by Health Minister Simon Corbell.

Canberra Hospital was stripped of accreditation for urology training in June, and in February it received a six-month extension to conduct obstetrics training. Cultural problems were credited as the reason for the training problems.

The government has loaned $6.5 million from the carbon neutral fund since 2010, and $2.4 million had been repaid.
