'Bedbugs' at Texas hospital turn out to be fleas

Midland Memorial Hospital officials call pest discovery an isolated incident

A patient at Texas' Midland Memorial Hospital says she complained of bedbugs for four days before the hospital took action, according to an article on the Midland Reporter-Telegram.

On the fourth day of the patient's stay, the nurses brought in a housekeeping department tech, who confirmed that the room did in fact have bedbugs.

Once an exterminator was brought in, the hospital said the bugs in question were fleas.

According to the hospital statement:

“In the most recent incident involving a bug claim within a patient room, the room was evacuated, sealed off, treated, re-inspected and then reopened once the issue was confirmed to be resolved. Upon investigation, Terminix reported the bug found to be a flea. Due to the extensive cleaning protocols we follow and the isolation of these incidents, we believe these types of pests are typically brought in by our guests and visitors.”
