CMS updates emergency preparedness rule

'Emerging infectious diseases' has been added to the current definition of all-hazards approach


The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has made changes to its Emergency Preparedness Appendix Z, according to an agency memo. 

“Emerging infectious diseases” has been added to the current definition of all-hazards approach.

Under Tag E0015- Alternate Source Power and Tag E0042 - Emergency Standby Power Systems section, there are now new clarifications related to portable/mobile generators. 

Facilities are being told to use the most appropriate energy source or electrical system based on their all-hazards risks assessment — and as required by existing regulations or state requirements.
