CMS won't update hospital star ratings until expert panel review

Ratings were last updated in February after 14 months

An update to the controversial hospital star ratings on Hospital Compare won't happen this summer, according to an article on the Modern Healthcare website.

The next update to the hospital star ratings will wait until a technical expert panel reviews the methodology and offers changes.

Ratings were last updated in February after 14 months. Before that they were typically updated every six months. The new ratings would have been expected in August.

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services spokesperson said the technical expert panel will review the comments from a public request for feedback on the system "and recommend next steps."
