Washington Hospital in Fremont, Calif., broke ground recently on $339 million Morris Hyman Critical Care Pavilion after more than a year of delays, according to an article on the San Francisco Business Journal website.
"Initial bids were higher than anticipated. As a result, it was necessary to 'value engineer' aspects of the building's design to ensure responsible stewardship of . . resources," spokesman Christopher Brown said.
In August 2013, officials said part of the project was held up by talks with the Bay Area Rapid Transit system over the new parking garage.
The new pavilion will bring more emergency and critical care services to the area, hospital officials said.
