Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care signs partnership agreement with Canadian College of Health Leaders


The Canadian Coalition of Green Health Care (the Coalition) is pleased to announce it has signed an agreement with the Canadian College of Health Leaders (the College) to encourage Canada's health leaders to take an active role in the greening of their organization. 

The Coalition represents more than 350 organizations, associations and environmentally-focused business associates who have had a significant impact upon the greening of the Canadian health system through national, provincial and local initiatives. 

Objectives of the partnership include stimulating transformative thought and profiling leading practices for environmental stewardship, health care facilities management and energy efficiency within Canada’s health system at the leadership level.

“Partnering with the Canadian Coalition of Green Health Care aligns with our strategic intent to build networks of influence that can improve how our health system performs.” said Ray Racette, CHE, President and Chief Executive Officer of the College. “Health leaders are instrumental for advancing the environmental stewardship and energy efficiency agenda and the Coalition has an extensive network and expert knowledge that can assist leaders in understanding the opportunities for improvement.”

“The Coalition is excited about the many new opportunities open to us in furthering our educational outreach to health care decision-makers across Canada thanks to our new partnership with the College.” said Linda Varangu, Executive Director of the Coalition. "We look forward to providing College members with an entirely new set of tools to assist them in their leadership of all things environmental, and in engaging with their staff to develop and implement greening initiatives that will lower their organisations ecological footprint, reduce long-term operating costs and improve the environment of care and treatment."

The Coalition and the College are members of the working group that signed the Joint Position Statement Toward an Environmentally Responsible Canadian Health Sector that calls on governments and policy-makers at all levels to understand and address links between health and the environment.
