Catholic Medical Center has broken ground on a new $43 million central energy plant (CEP).

The new CEP will modernize and strengthen CMC’s heating, ventilation, air handling and power systems — critical behind-the-scenes operations that support every corner of the hospital. The project will increase system reliability, reduce energy consumption and help ensure consistent temperature and air quality regulation throughout the facility.

Construction manager Gilbane Building Company oversees the multi phased construction project of the hospital’s central energy plant, with architectural design led by Barge Design Solutions. Both firms are coordinating closely with CMC teams to ensure the project proceeds safely and efficiently on an active hospital campus.

The ceremonial groundbreaking took place in Lot C off Putnam Street, where construction on the CEP will continue over the coming months. The new central energy plant is expected to be completed in early 2027.
