Chilled beam can increase capacity, decrease power draw

The SEMCO IQHC (high capacity) Series of active chilled beams' cooling capacity has been increased by 50 percent over previous models, while dropping pump and fan horsepower needs.

By Healthcare Facilities Today

The SEMCO IQHC (high capacity) Series of active chilled beams is specifically designed for the loads of North American commercial building applications, according to the company. Cooling capacity has been increased by 50 percent over previous models, while dropping pump and fan horsepower needs.

Designed to operate with any dedicated outdoor air dehumidifiers, the two-foot-wide IQHC is available as two-pipe or four-pipe models each in four sizes: four (3,800-Btu/h), six (5,000-Btu/h), eight (7,420- Btu/h) and 10-foot-long (9,700- Btu/h) models nominally-rated at 1/2-gpm and 0.5-inch w.g. Can be used in 14-foot ceiling heights for heating only or 18-foot heights if cooling only.

Features a 12-slot nozzle that's field-adjustable with hand-operated levers. The integral flow pattern control can also be angled as much as 45-degrees to address room hotspots. The nozzle adjustment additionally provides a unilateral, disproportional or equal air volume from each side.

It has five universal six-inch-diameter duct knockouts with spin-fit collars located in the top or any of the four sides and universal water piping connection locations. A hinged perforated steel panel provides coil access for recommended periodic cleaning and maintenance.

Beams snap into two included mounting brackets and can be installed in a ceiling grid or as a pendant. Pendant-mounted designs utilize plates to take advantage of the Coanda Effect that enhances an even air distribution down to the floor even when there is no ceiling or wall present.
