Chris Evert Children's Hospital to get new name, renovations

The $52 million project will be the Fort Lauderdale hospital's first major upgrade since it opened 33 years ago

Chris Evert Children's Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., will get a new name —  The Salah Foundation Children's Hospital at Broward Health — and $52 million in renovations, according to an article on the Sun Sentinel website.

The renovations will include redecorating the hospital in an under-the-sea theme. The walls, floors and furniture will bear aquatic color schemes and depictions of marine life, like turtles and seahorses.

A new playroom will also be built. Once complete, the two pediatric floors will each accommodate 22 private rooms equipped with beds for overnight stays.

So as not to disrupt patient care, construction in the pediatric floors will be done in two phases.
