Élizabeth Bruyère Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, s putting patients at increased risk of infection, said the union that represents workers there, according to an article on the Ottawa Citizen website.
The hospital is reducing its staff by 12.8 full-time cleaning positions and 4.39 full-time food service positions.
Chief operating officer Daniel Levac says he is confident the cuts will not affect patients. But he added the hospital has picked all the “low-hanging fruit” over the past four years and cannot continue to cut without affecting patients.
Ontario spends $353 less per capita on hospitals than other provinces in Canada. That funding gap amounts to more than $312 million a year for hospitals in Ottawa alone.
