Cleaning standards at the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, UK, hospital are being questioned after 22 C. diff cases were reported in four months, according to an article on the Gazette Live website.

The facility was cited for a lack of adequate isolation facilities and standards of cleanliness.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust, recorded the cases of Clostridium difficile (C. diff) over the first four months of the financial year. The total for the entire year should not exceed 50.

The report lists a number of other issues including the cleaning of beds between patients - and says a recruitment drive is under way. It also identified “the size of the infection control team” as an area of concern.
