The old Cook County Hospital, which played a key role in the history of medicine, closed 16 years ago. But a $145 million makeover is now underway, according to an article on the WGN website.
Resurrection of the hospital involves rehabilitation, renovation and restoration, the article said.
On all eight floors, almost every wall is coming down.
In about a year, the old hospital will be home to two new hotels, medical offices, retail spaces and a small museum dedicated to the building's history and its influence on healthcare.
