Collingswood Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center Launches Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program

Collingswood Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, a Marquis Health Services member, has launched a new Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at the 160-bed skilled nursing facility in Rockville; pulmonologists Dr. Safy John and Dr. Ajit Kuruvilla are overseeing the new initiative. Marquis acquired Collingswood earlier this year and immediately launched a $4.5 million renovation and programming expansion.

Collingswood’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program focuses on promoting independence and quality of life through reducing pulmonary symptoms and decreasing disability in acute and chronic lung patients, while increasing their participation in physical and social activities. Program features include onsite and full-time respiratory therapy, routine physician evaluations, physical and occupational therapy seven days per week (as ordered), 24-hour licensed nursing supervision, nurses and therapists trained in basic and advanced cardiac life support; and discharge planning with onsite follow-up by a nurse practitioner.

“Dr. John and Dr. Kuruvilla are well known for their expertise and leadership in the field of pulmonology, and we are pleased to work in partnership with them on this specialty program at Collingswood,” said Norman Rokeach, Marquis’ chief executive officer. “Our pulmonary rehab care and services, which are designed to meet the specific healthcare needs of residents of southern Maryland, aim to reduce the need for hospitalization and re-hospitalization for those with acute and chronic lung disorders.”

Collingswood’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program establishes working communication between all involved parties, including patient, family/caregiver, hospital, practitioner, skilled nursing facility, home health and outpatient services. The program also features the tracking of common metrics with root cause analysis to minimize the progression of debilitating symptoms by combining exercise, breathing retraining and dietary management.

Marquis Health Services, the healthcare affiliate of Tryko Partners, LLC, is a recognized leader in providing subacute rehabilitation and skilled nursing care. The company operates nearly 3,000 beds at 23 Mid-Atlantic and New England facilities.
