The new James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center was at the vanguard for healthy design, but it may be the last of a breed, according to an article on the Columbus Business Journal website.
Turner Construction Co. and Lend Lease Group finished the $750 million, 1.1 million-square foot tower last year.
Randy Keiser, Turner Construction Co. and Lend Lease Group's national healthcare director said in a recent interview that he doesn't expect many more projects of that scale. The 21-story tower for the James and University Hospital critical care unit capped a six-year $1.1 billion expansion.
Keiser said construction companies are adapting to more renovations, expansions and smaller outpatient campuses such as standalone emergency rooms.
