Day Kimball Healthcare in Putnam, Conn., has invested in an ER renovation, despite financially tough times, according to an article on the Norwich Bulletin website.
The new facility opens as the hospital is trying to eliminate $7 million in expenses, which includes selling property, eliminating services and laying off 23 employees.
The new emergency department is 23,066 square feet, more than doubling the 9,800 square feet in the old emergency department. There will be 24 private exam rooms and a two-bed resuscitation room for critical patients.
The old ER could accommodate a maximum of 18,000 visits a year, but the hospital had about 27,000 emergency department visits a year.
