Cost of data breaches most in healthcare industry

Data breaches in healthcare sector almost double that of the global average


Data breaches in healthcare sector cost almost double that of the global average, according to an article on the SC Media website.

And healthcare security issues have resulted in a 50 percent increase of data breaches, from June 2017 to May 2019, according to a SecurityScorecard research report. 

According to the Identity Theft Resource Center, there were 363 cases of data breaches globally in medical and healthcare organisations in 2018, exposing 9,927,798 documents. These numbers are set to increase globally, according to SecurityScorecard.

The healthcare industry holds the largest amount of data on one individual and the use of mobile technologies has made healthcare organizations more vulnerable.
