Dancing to the hand-hygiene tune

Hospital matron writes song to deliver hand-hygiene message

A hospital matron in a Leicester U.K., healthcare facility has written a song and created a rap video to deliver a hand-hygiene message, according to an article on the Leicester Mercury website.

The matron had persuaded colleagues and hospital executives to take part. The rap, set to Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby," reminds staff, patients and visitors of the importance of hand washing.

It focuses on the five most critical moments of hand cleanliness when looking after patients and to avoid the transfer of germs which can cause health care associated infections such as MRSA and Clostridium difficile.

The video was released in support of the this year's Clean Your Hands campaign run by the World Health Organisation. The main focus of this year's campaign is improving hand-hygiene practices in surgical services from surgical wards.
