Designing ORs for efficiency

Technologies should be supported by functional design


Supporting the latest technologies with a functional design improves clinical efficiencies of an operation room, according to an article on the Outpatient Surgery website.
 
New York-Presbyterian Hospital is building 12 new ORs designed for outpatient cases.
 
"Outpatient surgery can be done more efficiently, and with better quality of care, when ORs are dedicated to ambulatory cases," said Beryl Muniz, the hospital's vice president of perioperative services.
 
The surgery center's 12 ORs will each have three dedicated prep/PACU rooms where patients and their loved ones gather before and after surgery.
