Diversey Care's Avert sporicidal disinfectant cleaner kills C. Difficile spores in just 4 minutes

Sealed Air’s Diversey Care is expanding its portfolio of disinfection solutions with the launch of Avert™ Sporicidal Disinfectant Cleaner.  Avert is positioned as a task-oriented solution for use during Clostridium difficile (C. diff) outbreaks or in hyper endemic settings.  C. diff has become the most common cause of healthcare-associated infections in U.S. hospitals.

The practice of using sporicidal disinfectants as a task-oriented solution is reinforced by experts in the SHEA-IDSA Practice Recommendation, a collaborative effort between SHEA, IDSA, APIC, The Joint Commission and AHA, which outlines strategies to prevent C. diff infections.

“During an outbreak, facilities need to look beyond their daily disinfectant cleaners for a product with proven power to be effective against C. diff spores, which are more difficult to kill,” said Carolyn Cooke, Vice President Healthcare North America, Diversey Care. “With Avert, facilities can quickly and effectively target key areas to eliminate C. diff.”

Avert has been designed for use in all types of facilities.  Emerging data illustrated that almost one-third of C. diff infections are thought to be community-associated.  This data supports the need for better antibiotic stewardship, as well as better cleaning and disinfection practices both inside and outside the hospital walls.

With a one-minute contact time against key pathogens of concern such as CRE, Norovirus, VRE and MRSA and a mere four minutes against C. diff spores, Avert Sporicidal Disinfectant Cleaner cleans, disinfects and deodorizes hard, nonporous environmental surfaces in one step with no rinsing required.

The solution meets new, more stringent Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) testing requirements for disinfectants with sporicidal claims against C. diff (ASTM E2197) as well as the AORN-recommended cleaning method for Prion contamination of environmental surfaces. Compatible with most surfaces, Avert is packaged in convenient 12 x 32 ounce ready-to-use bottles.
