Doctor shot by patient at Florida VA hospital VA Medical Center

Employees say not all of the entrances at the hospital have metal detectors


A doctor at the West Palm Beach (Fla.) VA Medical Center was shot recently by a wheelchair-bound patient, according to an article on the Fox 11 News website.

The doctor was shot in the neck by a patient who is a double amputee. He was able to subdue the man after being shot.

The 59-year-old patient came to the VA in a wheelchair and had been combative all day, according to the VA. While staff members were checking his emotional state, he pulled out a small handgun and fired multiple shots.

Employees say not all of the entrances at the hospital have metal detectors.
