EYP Names Wenzhuo Tuttle as 2018-2019 Tradewell Fellowship Program Recipient

EYP Architecture & Engineering has named Wenzhuo Tuttle as the 2018-2019 recipient of the firm’s esteemed Tradewell Fellowship Program. The program offers aspiring healthcare architects with an opportunity to work closely with senior medical planners and gain career-building experience. Fellows are offered one year of full-time employment, mentorship from previous fellows and the opportunity to attend a national healthcare conference. EYP’s Tradewell Fellowship, now celebrating its 21st year, has been an important milestone in the careers of its dedicated and successful alumni.

Tuttle joins the Tradewell Fellowship having earned her Master of Architecture and Health from Clemson University. There she focused on both practical and innovative ways to design the physical environment of healthcare facilities. During her studies, Tuttle was a graduate research assistant for the Center for Health Facilities Design and Testing at Clemson University.

“My interest in this fellowship is to gain a deeper understanding of the complex issues surrounding hospital design and medical planning,” said Tuttle. “At EYP, I aim to familiarize myself with the daily operations of the health system in hopes of fostering a fully collaborative approach with healthcare projects that better serve the providers and patients, while meeting the requirements of the overall healthcare organization.”

Prior to applying for the Tradewell Fellowship, Tuttle participated in the STERIS Student Design Charrette at the Healthcare Design Conference (HCD 2017) in Orlando, Florida. This event is organized by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH). EYP staff, as part of the AIA AAH education committees, led both of these events, demonstrating EYP’s desire to give back to the profession. In addition to this, Tuttle is also the recipient of the 2018 AIA AAHF George J. Mann Travel Fellowship and received honorable mention for the UIA/PHG International Student Design Competition for her Prefabricated Modular Hospital Design.

“The Tradewell Fellowship is a unique and prestigious program that has helped shape the future of healthcare design for over 20 years,” said Charles Griffin, FAIA, FACHA, principal and healthcare sector leader for EYP. “Wenzhuo will make a valuable addition to our team and I look forward to the unique contributions she will bring as she begins her career at EYP.”
