FEMA urged to rebuild Puerto Rico hospital

The only hospital in Vieques has been closed since Hurricane Maria’s impact in September 2017

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to expedite the process to adequately rebuild the Centro de Salud Familiar Susana Centeno, – the only hospital in Vieques, Puerto Rico, according to an article on The Weekly Journal website.

The hospital has been closed since Hurricane Maria’s impact in September 2017.

Puerto Rico Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González and U.S. Rep. Nydia Velázquez (D-NY) stressed the importance of rebuilding the Isla Nena’s community health center, which housed the municipality’s only labor and delivery room, a dialysis center and a VA Clinic.

Additionally, in a letter to FEMA, they detail how the hospital’s closure has forced many Vieques residents to travel to the main island of Puerto Rico to receive the care they need.
