FGI 2018 healthcare facility guidelines open for comment

Revisions include new standards for emergency preparedness

The Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) has released proposed additions, changes and deletions to its 2018 editions for public comment, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.

The 2018 editions include three books; Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospitals, Guidelines for Design and Construction of Outpatient Facilities, and Guidelines for Design and Construction of Residential Health, Care, and Support Facilities.

Changes to this year's books include:

• More flexible pre- and post-procedure patient care area guidance (allowing provision of one, two or three spaces, depending on operations)

• Revisions to the Provisions for Disaster chapter focusing on hospital resiliency, or the ability to “absorb and recover from adverse events"
