FM Benchmarking aligns with OSCRE standards

Washington, DC September 10, 2014 Open Standards Consortium for Real Estate (OSCRE) and FM BENCHMARKING announce that FM BENCHMARKING aligns with OSCRE's Space Management and Occupancy Costs Standards, including the major categories of Facility Management (FM) expenses. This alignment means that members, subscribers and partners of the respective organizations will be able to compare facility management costs with common definitions and cost breakdowns.

The alignment encompasses critical components of managing space and expenses including utility costs and consumption, maintenance, cleaning, security, waste and recycling, grounds, parking and paving. This tool includes high-level expense roll-ups as well as a detailed approach for flexibility in data analysis.  Facility managers benefit by being able to track, report and compare key performance metrics including operating costs, space utilization down to functional type, and staffing levels.

OSCRE is a member-based organization focused on the collaborative development and implementation of global standards for real estate information exchange. FM BENCHMARKING is a global online benchmarking tool for facility managers and corporate real estate professionals.

By deploying standards, variability is reduced and accuracy and comparability are improved.  "FM BENCHMARKING's alignment with OSCRE Standards is an important step in addressing the challenges faced by organizations in managing big data, building better business analytics and improving benchmarking systems," stated Lisa Stanley, CEO of OSCRE International.

"This agreement resolves a significant problem for facility managers.  Most benchmarking systems do not contain sufficient data to make valid comparisons with peer buildings because the systems do not utilize a common data set.  FM BENCHMARKING's implementation of this common data set approach based on OSCRE Standards addresses this critical area to improve the scale, scope and quality of benchmarking," said Keith McClanahan, Principal, FM BENCHMARKING.
