Flexible pipes support California hospital’s seismic safety

Loma Linda University Health facility is near major earthquake faults

Because of its proximity to earthquake faults, Loma Linda University Health in Loma Linda Calif., has developed engineering solutions to help withstand major seismic activity, according to an article on the Loma Linda University Health website.

The facility rests on 126 building isolators designed to absorb ground motion during an earthquake, while allowing minimal building movement.

While the isolators are protecting the main building, there's a system of flexible pipes that will carry needed resources into the hospital.

Using flexible pipe systems will allow the facility to continue receiving power, water and other resources during and following a major earthquake.
