Florida hospital says flushed wipes lead to sewage leaks

Venice Regional Bayfront Health says wipes used for infection control were flushed down the toilet and led to broken pipe


Venice Regional Bayfront Health is Venice, Fla., reported that wipes used for infection control were flushed down the toilet and led to the broken pipe that eventually caused sewage leaks in facility, according to an article on the My Sun Coast website.

The leaking swage traveled from the point where the pipe broke to throughout the corridors, and the nurses were using blankets trying to absorb some of the flood which eventually flowed down an elevator shaft.

The hospital said there was no concern of patients being contaminated.

The sewage leaks have been stopped, the pipes fixed and the space has been cleaned and sanitized, according to the hospital. Rodent issues have also been address with more frequent visits from the pest control company overseeing the hospital and the cutting back of trees.
