Dana-Farber Cancer Institute broke ground on the Lavine Bekenstein Cancer Hospital during a ceremony that brought together leaders from across the Commonwealth, the City of Boston, Dana-Farber and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and the broader community.
The 450,000-square-foot facility will feature 300 inpatient beds across ten floors and has been designed specifically around the needs of people with cancer and their families. Built to support the next generation of cancer treatment, the hospital will bring together world-class clinical care, groundbreaking research and advanced technology in a single, integrated campus.
Hospital leadership was joined by elected officials, physicians, researchers, patients, donors, community leaders and supporters to commemorate this historic milestone.
The new hospital will strengthen Dana-Farber's clinical collaboration with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, creating an interconnected campus that supports closely coordinated outpatient care, inpatient services, and scientific discovery across the Longwood Medical Area. The proximity between researchers and clinicians will continue to accelerate Dana-Farber's bench-to-bedside model, helping translate discoveries into new treatments for patients.
