HFAP Awards Compounding Pharmacy Certification to Swedish Covenant Health

HFAP, America’s original healthcare accreditation program founded in 1945, recently awarded its first Compounding Pharmacy Certification to Swedish Covenant Health’s (SCH) pharmacy.

“The hospital pharmacy at Swedish Covenant exceeded all requirements needed to achieve the Compounding Pharmacy Certification,” said Meg Gravesmill, CEO of HFAP. “SCH’s pharmacy demonstrates the long-term commitment to excellence and quality control that this new certification recognizes and demonstrates to patients and healthcare providers.”

To achieve HFAP’s Compounding Pharmacy Certification, SCH’s pharmacy underwent an extensive on-site survey of its governance, clinical and support functions. SCH’s pharmacy will be recognized as an Advanced Compounding Pharmacy with Distinction by HFAP, confirming that SCH’s pharmacy is providing high-quality care as determined by an independent, external process of evaluation.

“As a hospital pharmacy, we are devoted to providing the highest level of care to our patients,” said Alicia Juska, director of pharmacy services at SCH. “We are proud to be the first hospital pharmacy to receive this prestigious HFAP certification, and consider it a significant achievement in our dedication to patient safety.”

The HFAP standards for Compounding Pharmacy Certification are divided into three sections: governance functions, clinical functions and support functions, with the clinical requirements adapted from the USP Compounding Compendium and segmented into two subcategories of sterile and non-sterile compounding.
