Healthcare Facilities Code changes approach to compliance

New version assesses the risks of procedures and services that may be performed in a range of facility types

There's been a fundamental shift in the building codes that apply to healthcare facilities, published this year by the National Fire Protection Association, according to an article on the McKnights website.

The Healthcare Facilities Code changed its approach from setting rules to assessing the risks of procedures and services that may be performed in a range of facility types.

The revised code sets different standards for the configuration, maintenance and testing of the electrical systems in areas where medical treatments are performed.

Facilities operators should be aware of the changes to ensure compliance with licensing requirements, the article said.
