Healthcare engineers and facilities managers bear a great responsibility with many complex specifications as they help care for a varied and vulnerable occupancy, according to an article on the Canadian Facility Management & Design website.
“There is a never-ending barrage of codes and standards,” John Marshman, director of engineering and plant operations with the William Osler Health System.
Current concerns and new demands for infection control can present a particular challenge.
“It (infection control) drives a fairly onerous infrastructure regime around systems that are typically fairly hard to control,” he said. “That’s driving some significant changes to how we approach HVAC systems and the layout of certain areas.”
