Patients’ role in cybersecurity expected to grow


As patients interact with and create online health data, healthcare facilities will need to secure an even larger potential area for cyber attacks, according to an article on the Healthcare IT News website.

A new threat assessment from Morphisec, a cybersecurity firm, says the number of consumers accessing their health data online has grown to 42 percent.

Patients are using their own connected devices to generate their own health data, which can be shared with their physicians or other practitioners.

Every player in the security ecosystem – from vendor to practitioner to patient – needs to have a stake in maintaining the security of healthcare data, the article said.
