Healthcare workers hike to raise awareness about workplace violence

Minnesota healthcare workers are planning a 100-mile hike on the Superior Hiking Trail

Minnesota healthcare workers are planning a 100-mile hike on the Superior Hiking Trail beginning Aug. 17 to raise awareness about the violence some state colleagues face in their workplaces, according to an article on the Duluth News Tribune website.

A core group of 15 hikers are planning to complete the entire hike while other healthcare workers will join the group for as long as they can. People can still join the hike if they're interested, said Jeff Loeks, one of the group's leaders who is organizing the hike through his group Special Teams Charities.

Although they've done a few practice hikes in the Twin Cities to prepare, many of the hikers haven't done a long-distance activity like they're about to undertake.

People who don't work in health care don't usually know what the job entails, he said in the article, adding that he didn't know before he became a nurse.
