The historic Joseph Curran Building in Manhattan had been transformed into a freestanding emergency department for Lenox Hill Hospital, according to an article on the Medical Construction & Design website.
Requirements for the emergency department design included the need to provide two 23-hour-stay patient rooms, enhanced diagnostics and an enlarged ambulance bay, including one position for a 24-hour standby ambulance to transfer high-acuity patients to a full-service hospital, the article said.
The project also needed to deal a lengthy compliance process and the building's location in a historic district.
The interior design was inspired by the original building’s nautical themes — soothing greens and blues with teak walls and columns.
