Hoefer Wysocki Awarded for Sustainable Healthcare Design of Saint Luke’s Multispecialty Clinic – Blue Springs

Saint Luke’s Multispecialty Clinic – Blue Springs, Missouri, has been selected as an Award of Merit winner for the 2019 United States Green Building Council (USGBC) West North Central (WNC) Leadership Awards in the “Innovative Design, New Construction” category. People are taking note of how sustainable measures can save money, improve business, and help the community. As awareness increases, we can expect to see more of this unique design model in the healthcare space across the Midwest, and the nation.

The $11.6 million, LEED Silver-certified clinic, was built to provide specialized and highly flexible outpatient care, including imaging, pharmacy and labs. Sustainable measures are at the core of the design, which prioritizes future unknowns such as expansion and adaptation to community healthcare needs. Other impacts which were instrumental in the design include:

  • Significant reduction in water usage, including improved stormwater management
  • Increased business productivity and patient satisfaction
  • Diversion of landfill waste during construction
  • Material selection for finishes and furnishings
  • Walking trails and strategic daylighting to promote patient and employee wellness
  • Electric vehicle charging stations

WHO: Ashley Eusey, P.E., LEED AP, GGP, Sustainability Specialist, at Hoefer Wysocki has been recognized as a national leader in sustainable design and can provide commentary related to this facility and overall concept such as:

  • Sustainability metrics and measurement
  • How sustainable design saves money, improves business, and helps others
  • Growing concern for sustainable facilities across the Midwest
  • Lessons learned related to successful LEED Silver certification
