Hospital investigated after patient falls from window

The incident was being investigated in line with the hospital's 'never event'

A patient had to be air-lifted to a major trauma unit after falling from a first floor window at Leicester General Hospital in the U.K., according to an article on the Leicester Mercury website.

The patient was taken by air ambulance to the trauma unit at the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire.

The incident was being investigated in line with the hospital's "never event" framework. NHS England classifies a "never event" as a serious incident which is "wholly preventable."

The list of "never events" covers some 14 categories, including "falls from poorly restricted windows." The listing from NHS England states that this applies to windows "within reach" of patients, such as windows that can be fallen from without the need to move furniture to help that happen.
