The Mayo Clinic Health System – Franciscan Healthcare in La Crosse, Wis., recently rescheduled surgeries due to dust on supplies after light fixtures were cleaned in the instrument storage space, according to an article on the News 8000 website.
Such dust may contain microbes, though tests results have proven negative to date. As a precaution, the hospital decided the supplies in question would not be used until the hospital was confident they were safe.
The hospital said it initially anticipated the interruption of surgical services would be limited to a day or two, but would probably be longer
The hospital will reestablish its distribution facilities and is processing, ordering and receiving replacement supplies and organizing them back into its supply chain operations.
