Hospitals are re-imagining spaces

Survey shows that many hospitals and health systems will be repurposing existing spaces as they move their services into communities


The 2015 Health Facilities Management/American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) Construction Survey showed that many hospitals and health systems will be repurposing existing spaces as they move their services into communities, according to an article on the Health Forum website.

According to the survey, 26 percent of respondents say they are planning to repurpose facilities and 41 percent say they are not yet planning to repurpose, but are assessing space for other needs.

Of those who are planning repurposing projects, 34 percent of them are outpatient facilities and 31 percent are for medical office space.

The construction of specialty hospitals was also a major theme of the survey.  For instance, 23 percent of respondents say they are building children’s hospitals.
