According to the 2015 Health Facilities Management Sustainable Operations Survey, some facilities are making take great strides and others are taking baby steps.
Purchasing bigger-ticket items, securing adequate staffing and developing comprehensive sustainability programs that address the issue from every angle will take some time, the survey results suggested.
But hospitals are making progress in areas such as installing LED exit signs, upgrading building control and automation systems and recycling.
According to the survey, about 70 percent of hospitals are measuring energy savings, but the most still are not using performance metrics to track their energy budgets.
