The American Hospital Association says housing is healthcare and housing instability can affect healthcare facilities, according to an article on the Hospitals and Health Networks website.
Housing instability is one of the challenges identified by the association’s Task Force on Ensuring Access in Vulnerable Communities.
One possible strategy would address how the social determinants of health, including housing instability, utilities, food insecurity, interpersonal violence, lack of transportation and other factors, limit access to healthcare services in the community, the article said.
One idea has hospitals providing navigation services that connect their patients with services they need.
