Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, Texas, is working with law enforcement to establish safe areas in the hospital that should be the first places guarded and protected by FBI, SWAT and police, according to an article on the Click2Houston website.
Ben Taub Hospital has had several violent incidents in the past four years.
In October 2014, police swarmed the hospital after shots were fired in the pharmacy. A female employee was killed by a co-worker, who later killed himself. During a 2016 incident, an inmate being treated at the hospital took a medical student hostage using a medical device as a weapon.
The hospital is having discussions with the Houston police to say how can it can standardize practices so that as people go from hospital to hospital, including the police officers, there is a standardized approach, according to a hospital official.
