Illinois nursing home resident monitoring law OK'd

Residents of nursing homes and their families can put audio- or video-monitoring devices in residents' rooms

A proposal to allow residents of Illinois nursing homes and their families to put audio- or video-monitoring devices in residents’ rooms has been signed into law, according to an article on the My Journal Courier website.

Illinois will be the fourth state to allow such monitoring when the law goes into effect in January.

This legislation resulted from complaints from nursing home residents and family members concerned about care and security of residents.

The Illinois Department of Public Health receives more than 21,000 calls annually and investigates about 5,000 complaints, the majority of which involve long-term care facilities.
