Central Indiana is experiencing a healthcare construction boom that shows no signs of slowing down, according to an article on the Indianapolis Business Journal website.
But while the hospital industry says the projects are needed, Some insurance brokers and employer groups are concerned that expense could keep pushing up healthcare costs.
“Do we really need another gargantuan expansion to the healthcare system?” asked Dave Kelleher, president of HealthCare Options Inc., a management consulting firm in Indianapolis. “Prices in Indiana are high relative to elsewhere. This is just going to add to it.”
Central Indiana is already full of unused beds, as payers demand lower-cost settings, such as urgent care centers and outpatient surgery centers, for many treatments, the article said.
